“THIS KIND CAN COME FORTH BY NOTHING, BUT BY PRAYER AND FASTING.”
- MARK 9:14-29
- And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
- M’r:9:15: And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
- M’r:9:16: And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
- M’r:9:17: And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
- M’r:9:18: And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
- M’r:9:19: He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
- M’r:9:20: And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
- M’r:9:21: And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
- M’r:9:22: And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
- M’r:9:23: Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
- M’r:9:24: And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
- M’r:9:25: When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
- M’r:9:26: And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
- M’r:9:27: But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
- M’r:9:28: And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
- M’r:9:29: And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
- WE ARE TALKING MUCH ABOUT EVANGELISM AND PERSONAL WITNESSING THESE DAYS
- WE ARE ALSO TALKING MUCH ABOUT PRAYERS
- I ALSO WANT TO BELIEVE THAT WE ARE ALL REALLY PRAYING
- IN THE STORY WE JUST READ IN MARK 9,THE DISCIPLES OF JESUS HAD JUST EXPERIENCED SOME SORT OF EMBARRASMENT
- THEY WERE MOST PROBABLY ON OUTREACH TO THE COMMUNITY
- THEY WERE PREACHING AND TALKING ABOUT JESUS CHRIST AND THE POWER OF GOD
- THEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVE THEMSELVES AS BELIEVERS OF WHAT THEY WERE PREACHING CAME WHEN A MAN WITH A VERY SICK CHILD CAME UP
- AND THEN THEY COULD NOT DELIVER THE CHILD,.JESUS WAS NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THEM
- NEITHER WERE THEY TOO PROUD OF THEMSELVES
- “BUT WHY COULD NOT WE CAST THAT DEVIL OUT OF THE CHILD “
- THEY LATER ASKED THE LORD AS THEY WONDERED ABOUT THEIR FAILURE
- THEN CAME THE ANSWER FROM THE LORD TO THEM : “ THIS KIND CAN COME FORTH BY NOTHING, BUT BY PRAYER AND FASTING.”
- JESUS HIMSELF OBVISOULY USED TO PRAY A LOT
- Luke 5:16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
- Lu:3:21-22 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,: And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
- Lu:6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
- Lu:6:13: And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
- IT IS EVIDENT FROM LUKE’S GOSPEL THAT JESUS PRAYS OFTEN
- HE WOULD WITHDRAW HIMSELF FROM THE CROWD AND GO INTO THE WILDERNESS TO PRAY
- HE PRAYED AS HE WAS ENTERING THE WATER TO BE BAPTISED,DID YOU EVEN DO THAT?
- I NEVER DID,MAYBE BEFORE THE BAPTISM BUT NOT THERE AT THE WATER
- HE SPENT THE WHOLE NIGHT PRAYING BEFORE CHOOSING HIS DISCIPLES.
- HOW LONG DID YOU PRAY FOR BEFORE CHOOSING YOUR LIFE OR BUSINESS PARTNER?
- YOU MUST PATIENTLY WAIT ON THE LORD FOR HIS WILL TO BE DONE IN YOUR LIFE
- NOW THE DISCIPLES KNEW THAT JESUS WAS POWERFUL BECAUSE HE PRAYED A LOT
- THEREFORE THEY ASKED HIM TO TEACH THEM HOW TO PRAY
- Luke 11:1-13 :
- And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
- Lu:11:2: And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
- Lu:11:3: Give us day by day our daily bread.
- Lu:11:4: And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
- Lu:11:5: And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
- Lu:11:6: For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
- Lu:11:7: And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
- Lu:11:8: I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
- Lu:11:9: And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
- Lu:11:10: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
- Lu:11:11: If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
- Lu:11:12: Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
- Lu:11:13: If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
- JESUS’ DISCIPLES NOTICED HIS PRAYERFULNESS AND IN VERSE ONE OF THE ABOVE PASSAGE THEY ASKED HIM TO TEACH THEM HOW TO PRAY .
- WELL JESUS WANTED THEM TO SEE AND UNDERSTAND THAT ALL HIS POWER COMES FROM GOD THE FATHER
- ALL PRAYERS MUST BE ADDRESSED TO HIM
- WE ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE INSTRCTIONS IN JOHN 14 AND 16 ABOUT ASKING FOR ANYTHING FROM THE FATHER IN JESUS NAME
- THE DANGER IS THAT IT HAS BECOME A MECHANICAL CLICHÉ OR FORMULAR
- “FATHER IN THE NAME OF JESUS…..” IS AN EXPRESSION THAT IS HEARD MORE THAN A MILLION TIMES A DAY
- IT IS A FORMULAR THAT IS CHEAPLY USED BY THOSE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT GOD THE FATHER
- BUT PRAYER IS NOT SOME WICKED COMMAND THAT WE ARE FORCED TO OBEY,
- RATHER,ACCORDING TO THE LORD, IT IS THE NATURAL RESULT OF A BELIEF IN A PERSONAL GOD THAT ALSO HAPPENS TO BE OUR FATHER
- IT IS A NATURAL WAY OF ENGAGING IN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH A LOVING FATHER
- THEREFORE JESUS STARTS HIS INSTRUCTION BY SAYING “WHEN YOU PRAY.”
- MEANING THAT FOR ALL THE FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST, PRAYER IS NOT A MATTER OF “IF” BUT “WHEN
- IT IS CERTAINLY FRUITFUL TO PRAY THE LORD’S PRAYER VERBATIM LIKE WE HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST EIGHT MONTHS ,
- HOWEVER ,IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO CAREFULLY BEGIN TO CONSIDER THE CONCEPTS CONTAINED WITHIN THAT PRAYER.
- LET US FIRST LOOK AT THE CONCEPT OF OUR FATHER
- THE DISCIPLES ASKED THE LORD TO TEACH THEM TO PRAY
- THEN HE SAID UNTO THEM, WHEN YE PRAY, SAY, “OUR FATHER WHICH ART IN HEAVEN”
- THE QUESTION IS WHY SHOULD WE SAY “ OUR FATHER WHICH AT IN HEAVEN:”
- THE ANSWER IS THAT IF YOU ARE WILLING TO OBEY GOD IN THE MATTER OF PRAYING FOR OTHERS ,THEN YOU MUST SEE HIM AS THE FATHER OF ALL THE PEOPLES ON EARTH
- IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER THEY ARE BLACK,WHITE OR YELLOW
- JESUS TEACHES US TO SEE GOD THE FATHER AS OUR COLLECTIVE FATHER, THE FATHER OF EVERYONE ON EARTH
- EPH:3:14-15
- “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
- YOU MUST SEE AND KNOW HIM AS GOD THE FATHER FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW,
- YOU MUST KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THAT HE IS OUR GOOD AND DEPENDABLE FATHER
- James1:17:
- “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
- IN THE BOOK OF EPHESIANS, APOSTLE PAUL ALSO SAYS SOME SERIOUS THINGS ABOUT THE LOVE OF GOD THE FATHER FOR MANKIND TO WHICH WE MUST PAY ATTENTION
- Eph:1:1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:
- Eph:1:2: Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Eph:1:3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
- Eph:1:4: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
- Eph:1:5: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
- Eph:1:6: To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
- Eph:1:7: In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
- Eph:1:8: Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
- Eph:1:9: Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
- Eph:1:10: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
- Eph:1:11: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
- Eph:1:12: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
- IN COLLOSIANS PAUL ALSO SAYS
- Col:1:12: Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Col:1:13: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
- THESE THEN ARE ALL THE REASONS WHY JESUS INSTRUCTS US THAT THE VERY FIRST THING TO DO IN PRAYERS IS TO APPROACH GOD AS OUR HEAVENLY FATHER.
- THE EARLIER WE UNDERSTAND THAT GOD IS OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, THE SOONER OUR MIRACLES WILL MANIFEST.
- THE EARLIER WE UNDERSTAND THAT GOD IS OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, THE SOONER SHALL WE BE EMPOWERED TO WORK MIRACLES
- THIS IS BECAUSE POWER ONLY FLOWS BY RELATIONSHIP AND NOT JUST BY WORDS
- JESUS ALWAYS TOLD THE PHARISEES “I AND THE FATHER ARE ONE”
JOH:10:30-39
- I and my Father are one.
- Joh:10:31: Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
- Joh:10:32: Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
- Joh:10:33: The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
- Joh:10:34: Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
- Joh:10:35: If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
- Joh:10:36: Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
- Joh:10:37: If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
- Joh:10:38: But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
- Joh:10:39: Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,
- JESUS LIVES TO PLEASE GOD THE FATHER AND JUST DO HIS WILL
- ……………….. Joh:5:30: I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me………………………..
- JESUS TOLD THE DISCIPLES THAT HR TREATS THE WORK OF GOD THE FATHER WITH UTMOST URGENCY AND IMPORTANCE
- Joh:4:31In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
- Joh:4:32: But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
- Joh:4:33: Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
- Joh:4:34: Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
- HE ONLY DOES WHAT HE SEES THAT GOD THE FATHER IS DOING
- Joh:5:17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
- Joh:5:18: Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
- Joh:5:19: Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
- Joh:5:20: For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
- Joh:5:21: For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
- HOW DOES ONE DEVELOP THIS POWERFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THE FATHER?
- HOW DO YOU GET TO THE POINT OF CASTING OUT DEMONS AND HEALING THE SICK WITHOUT STRESS?
- JESUS SAYS THIS KIND ONLY GOES BY PRAYER AND FASTING
- MEANING THAT THIS KIND ONLY GOES WHEN THE GRACE OF GOD THE FATHER SMILES UPON YOU
- THIS KIND ONLY GOES BY PRAYER AND FASTING WHEN YOU AND THE FATHER ARE ONE
- THIS RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THE FATHER ONLY COMES THROUGH FASTING AND PRAYER
- AS YOU FAST AND PRAY YOU ARE CLEANSED,HEALED AND DELIVERED,
- AS YOU FAST AND PRAY YOU BECOME PURER AND RICHER IN DREAMS ,VISIONS AND REVELATIONS
- YOU DEVELOP A GREAT CONFIDENCEIN THE LOVE OF THE FATHER AND IN HIS POWER
- YOU ARE AWARE OF HIS POWER AND PRESENCE IN YOU,YOU AREGREATLY ANOINTED AND READY FOR GREAT WORKS
- JEREMIAH SAYS IN JER 32
- Jer:32:17 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:
- Jer:32:18: Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name,
- Jer:32:19: Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:
- GOD REPEATED THE SAME ABOUT HIMSELF
- Jer:32:25 And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
- Jer:32:26: Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,
- Jer:32:27: Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
- JOB SAYS I KNOW MY REDEEMER LIVETH
- APOSTLE PAUL SAYS I KNOW WHOM I HAVE BELIEVED AND AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE TO KEEP THAT
- WHENEVER A SITUATION BECOMES HOPELESS JESUS QUICKLY CALLS ON THE FATHER FOR HELP
- HE ALWAYS EXPRESSES SUCH A BRILLIANT CONFIDENCE IN THE FATHER’S POWER AND WILLINGNESS
- When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?
- Joh:6:6: And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.
- Joh:6:7: Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
- Joh:6:8: One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,
- Joh:6:9: There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
- Joh:6:10: And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
- Joh:6:11: And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
- Joh:6:12: When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
- Joh:6:13: Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
- Joh:6:14: Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
- Joh:6:15: When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
- IT IS THE GREATEST DESIRE OF JESUS CHRIST THAT WE SHOULD BE SO CLOSE TO THE FATHER THAT WE ARE ONE WITH HIM AND ONE WITH THE FATHER
- Joh:17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
- Joh:17:20: Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
- Joh:17:21: That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
- Joh:17:22: And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
- Joh:17:23: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
- Joh:17:24: Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
- Joh:17:25: O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
- Joh:17:26: And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
- JESUS PRAYED THESE PRAYERS FOR ALL WHO BELIEVE IN HIM BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT THE ONLY WAY OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THE FATHER CAN BE PAINLESS AND FRUITFUL IS FOR US TO BE TRULY SAVED AND SANCTIFIED
- THIS KIND GOETH NOT BUT BY FASTING AND PRAYER.DO YOU DESIRE TO BE STRONG AND DO EXPLOITS?
- YOU MUST BE ONE WITH THE FATHER.JESUS PRAYED FOR IT,DESIRE AND PRAY FOR IT TOO
